Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions you might have to find out more about what we do.

Why doesn’t ClothesLine have clothing bins like other charities?

Unfortunately. a large percentage of the clothing deposited into clothing bins by members of the public, is unusable and is only any good for industrial rags. ClothesLine is only interested in receiving clean, good quality clothing, of a standard that you or I would be happy to wear.

Does ClothesLine sell any of the good clothing that’s been donated?

No, we are not in the business of selling clothing. We guarantee that 100% of all new or good quality used clothing, donated to ClothesLine, will be distributed free of charge, direct to the homeless and needy.

What else can I donate to ClothesLine?

We can never get enough blankets, bath towels and toiletries, (soap, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes). Whilst we don’t sell clothing, we need funding to support our operating costs (vans, fuel, insurances, storage, phones etc). Consequently, we are happy to accept cash donations or items that can be sold or auctioned to raise cash.

Are cash donations to ClothesLine tax deductible?

Yes, ClothesLine is an approved ‘deductible gift recipient’ and cash donations of $2.00 and over are tax deductible. We are happy to provide you with a tax deductible receipt.

Are donations of other items tax deductible?

Not all donations are tax deductible, most new goods and certain other items may qualify. Used clothing doesn’t qualify. However, if you have a particular item in mind that you wish to donate, we suggest you contact us direct and we can advise you accordingly.

Is ClothesLine subject to any form of official audit?

Yes, the accounts of ClothesLine are required to be audited annually, under government regulation.

What kind of clothes do you need?

In winter we are distributing warm clothing but we are happy to receive light clothing, which we will store until the summer and visa versa. We do not want any used underwear. We always need socks (new or washed and in good condition without holes).

How can I donate my clothes?

At present it is easier for us to pick up from you. Please contact us and we will arrange a suitable day/time.
